How it began….
In 2011 Mrs. Phillips was out and about and noticed some people in a vacant lot. What caught her attention was the fact that it was winter and they didn’t have on any coats. Upon speaking with them they told her they were homeless which at that point she immediately left to get the necessities that she could. Since that day she wanted to be involved in helping the community so she began a program called Circle of Women in her church in 2011 then expanded to Operation Keep Warm in 2013. Circle of Women focused on having after church meetings with women young and old faced with poverty and marginalization while Operation Keep Warm primarily focused on clothing drives. Around the same time in 2011 her husband began serving in their local church as well. With the blessings of their pastor he was able to form a program named Margaret’s Kitchen where he did food drives. Over the years the 2 programs have work in conjunction until in late December, 2024 they came together and founded Recovery on the Avenue where she handles the clothing drives and meetings and he handles the food drives. Since 2011 Mrs Brenda Phillips and her husband have been serving the community and will now with their new organization they’ll be able to reach out to more of those facing poverty and now other hardships.
